The 2024 CyberSec Symposium is the largest event we’ve had in Fiji to date, with over 250 registrations! Thanks to everyone that helped make the event possible and all the wonderful cybersecurity experts that joined us! Esteemed speakers shared their expertise on crucial cybersecurity topics. An opening address was given by the Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister, who touched on “Protecting Our Digital Future” with insights on government initiatives related to this. Alex Teh, CEO of Chillisoft, delivered a keynote address on “The Role Fiji must play for Cybersecurity in the Pacific Islands,” providing valuable insights into regional cybersecurity challenges and solutions. Joshua Gardner, Mimecast Channel Account Manager, guided us through “Maximizing your MSFT ROI and Fortifying your security with Mimecast,” offering practical strategies for enhancing security posture within Microsoft environments. Meanwhile, Dane Blackmore, Netskope Country Manager, explored “The importance of zero trust for cloud adoption,” shedding light on critical considerations for secure cloud integration.

Furthermore, attendees had the opportunity to participate in an ESET Workshop, led by Lukesh Sadh, Technical Solutions team leader at Chillisoft. This event was more than just an opportunity to learn; it was also a great chance to socialize with industry peers & experts as the event ended with networking and refreshments!

Hon. Manoa Kamikamica

Hon. Manoa Kamikamica is a Proud Fijian with over 33 years of experience in the field of Finance, Aviation, Banking and Manufacturing at a senior executive level.

A Chartered Accountant by Profession Hon. Kamikamica is the first indigenous Fijian to become a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants and is presently a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Hon. Kamikamica was the CFO and General Manager for the Lyndhurst Group of Companies and has served senior roles with ANZ in Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. Before joining ANZ, Hon. Kamikamica worked for Fiji’s National Carrier Fiji Airways for over 13 years as General Manager Finance and General Manager Strategic Planning.

Hon. Kamikamica holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of NSW in Australia.
He is married to Anne Steele and they have one daughter.

Joshua Gardner has over 20 years’ experience across the channel ecosystem with a background in cybersecurity, network infrastructure and cloud, built from roles across vendors, distribution and partners. Currently serving as Distribution Manager at Mimecast for ANZ, Joshua is responsible for managing distribution channels, leveraging his expertise to drive cybersecurity focus in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the pacific.

Notably, Lukesh has conducted 43 successful trainings across New Zealand!

Tupou’tuah Baravilala

Tupou’tuah Baravilala is a digital transformation specialist with a passion for digital equity, cybersecurity and creating a more inclusive society.

As the Director-General for Digital Government Transformation, Cybersecurity and Communications, Ms. Baravilala has extensive experience in helping bridge the digital divide in society through an ambitious effort to digitalise key government operations and services, in addition to progressively expanding meaningful connectivity to remote communities. She spearheaded the development of the digitalFIJI platform –– a secure single sign-in portal granting access to an expanding range of e-government services, including birth registration, feedback submission, and registrar of companies services. She oversaw the roll-out of digital tools to aid Fiji’s COVID-19 containment and recovery strategy. Ms. Baravilala is keenly interested in exploring the nexus between ICT, cyber policy, law and international relations. She has also served as the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communications.

Ms. Baravilala has over 11 years of experience in the civil service, successfully deploying nation-wide programmes across different government agencies. She represents the Government as an expert and lead negotiator on cyber matters at the United Nations, International Telecommunications Union, Council of Europe, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity, and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation. She is also the Vice Chair of the Asia Pacific Telecommunity Policy and Regulatory Forum for the Pacific.

Ms Baravilala is a frequent speaker at international conferences and events.

Ms. Baravilala is Board Director of the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji. She has also served as a company director on several boards in the infrastructure and telecommunications sectors. In 2023, Ms Baravilala was awarded the inaugural Women in Tech — Tech Policy Advocate Award. In 2019, Ms. Baravilala was awarded the Women in Business Public Manager of the Year and was also one of Fiji’s “30 under 30” honorees. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of the South Pacific and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
