FIJI CYYBERSEC 2019 RECAP
Bringing the Fiji cybersecurity community together.
The first Fiji CyberSec event in 2019 marked a turning point for cybersecurity awareness in the Pacific Islands.
Hosted by VT Solutions with support from sponsors ESET and LogRhythm, the event brought together cybersecurity professionals, vendors, and government stakeholders from across the region. The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation covered the event, helping raise public awareness about the growing importance of cybersecurity in the digital era.
One of the major highlights was the ESET-certified in-person training, which gave attendees hands-on, practical skills they could apply immediately within their organisations. The training was well-received, with participants praising its clarity, relevance, and real-world application.
The broader agenda focused on building cybersecurity maturity across Fiji’s public and private sectors. Sessions tackled key issues such as risk identification, threat response, and the role of education in strengthening digital resilience. Speakers also explored the specific challenges faced by Pacific Island nations and how partnerships can help address them.
Attendees included professionals from telecom, banking, utilities, education, and government. Many were seeking practical knowledge, vendor connections, and strategic insights tailored to Fiji’s unique needs. In between sessions, participants engaged directly with technology leaders and explored demo stations from major vendors.
The event wrapped up with a casual networking session over food and refreshments. This gave attendees the chance to swap stories, build relationships, and reflect on what they had learned. For many, it was the first time they had access to this level of cybersecurity expertise in person.
The 2019 Fiji CyberSec event proved there was a strong appetite for regional collaboration, training, and knowledge-sharing. It laid the foundation for future events and helped kick-start a movement toward stronger cybersecurity in the Pacific.
